Winter Tip #1 – Check the “wind chill” (not just the temperature) each day, and react according (which might need to include limiting your time spent outdoors).

Winter Tip #2 – Dress in at least 3 layers, according to this picture. Wearing a warm winter hat, warm gloves, and doubling-up your socks is also recommended.

Winter Tip #3 – Know the symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia, and take immediate action when noticed.
Here are a couple of 2-minute videos that describe the symptoms and proper reactions to take.

Winter Tip #4 – Not to ruin your fun, but consuming alcohol, caffeine and/or nicotine restricts your arteries which reduces your body’s ability to regulate temperature and increases your chance of heart attack (especially when performing strenuous activities, like shoveling snow). It’s safest to avoid these products before going outside in extreme temperatures.

Winter Tip #5 – Widen your steps, point your toes outward, and walk at a slower pace when walking on ice.
