US DOL Publishes Final Rule For Adjustment to Annual Penalty Increase

The US Department of Labor (DOL) issued their final rule with regards to adjustment for inflation for civil penalties on January 15, 2020. The civil penalties increased by 1.01764 percent.  

OSHA’s maximum penalty amount for Serious/Other citations was $7,000 and maxium penalty amount for Repeat/Willful citations was $70,000 when the agency was founded in 1970. Those amouns have remained the same until August 1, 2016 when the increased to $12,471 and $124,710 respectively. Since 2016, the penalties have been increased annually (between 1-2% each year).
